OUR GOALS

Scholarship Fundraising

While our students love the applause they hear following every performance, your appreciation for their outstanding contributions to our production program doesn’t help them pay their tuition or buy their books and supplies. You can, however, help them with that too!

A tax-deductible gift to Friends of Theatre and Dance helps us, help our students through scholarships, classroom supplies, and artist residencies. Your gift makes an extraordinary theatre education at Howard University possible for our deserving students.

Won’t you help by taking this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our students?

Production Support

In these days of tight university budgets, FOTD@HU is dedicated to ensuring the continuing excellence of the Theatre and Dance Arts program at Howard University. Funds raised by FOTD@HU go directly to support the educational programming students and community members enjoy now and hope to benefit from in the future. Backstage support, maintenance, and theatre equipment upgrades are needed for the Ira Aldridge Theater, Al Freeman, Jr. Environmental Theatre Space, Dance Studio, Dressing Rooms, Costume Shop, Scene/Wood shop, and Box Office. Production funding for theatrical and dance performances remain a critical need for the Department.

Advocacy

Friends of Theatre and Dance at Howard University, Inc., is here to provide additional support and voice for the Department of Theatre Arts. This is an extremely important part of our work. Advocacy is more than simply the act of speaking or writing in support of something. The Alumni who have graduated from this Department and now hold a career inside of the Arts continue to reaffirm the value of their well rounded Howard University education, each time they step onto a stage, into a classroom or boardroom, and hold a technical and/or administrative position/role in an organization. We must continue a proactive, well-organized effort to build support for the Department during these turbulent times at The University. FOTD@HU is a strong and articulate community of stakeholders and advocates who are ready to speak up on behalf of the Department of Theatre Arts.
